YWCANNJ healingSPACE Hosts Virtual Title IX Workshops for NJ Higher Education Administrators
Training Led by Campus Sexual Violence Experts Covers New Regulations and COVID-19 Context
May 15, 2020 – YWCA Northern New Jersey (YWCANNJ) healingSPACE, Bergen County’s only state-designated sexual violence resource center, is applying its expertise in campus sexual violence to provide virtual Title IX training to New Jersey college and university administrators under a grant from the New Jersey State Bar Foundation with funding from the IOLTA Fund of the Bar of New Jersey.
The May 2020 workshop—“Current State of Title IX”—was attended virtually by over 70 Title IX coordinators and higher education administrators from across the state. Presenters included Helen Archontou, MSW, LSW, CEO, YWCANNJ and member of New Jersey Task Force on Campus Sexual Assault; Joseph A. Del Russo, Esq., Dr. Anthony V. D’Urso, and Matthew T. Priore, Esq., Partners, Forensic Risk Management; and Nathan Hopkins, Esq., Title IX Coordinator and Executive Director of Office of Equity and Compliance, Liberty University.
“With newly released Title IX regulations from the US Department of Education and evolving best practices on conducting investigations remotely, we know our higher education colleagues could benefit greatly from timely updates and insights,” says YWCANNJ CEO Helen Archontou. “Faculty, staff, and students are negotiating the challenges of remote learning and staying healthy on a daily basis. Now, we have revised regulations that will make it that much more difficult for survivors to report sexual violence or have their safety taken seriously. Regardless, we know our NJ colleges and universities want to hold themselves to the highest standard of responsibility for the well-being of their students. These workshops are specifically designed to help ensure that they are as informed and prepared as possible, especially in these uncertain times.”
The next virtual Title IX workshop is planned for June. For more information or to participate, contact Lori Murray at 201-345-1888 or email@example.com.
