I love fireworks. I thrill at the bursts of color and light, the spread of chrysanthemum-like brilliance blossoming overhead, embroidering the night sky. I adore the thundering sensation of the boom and the way it takes your breath away.
Fireworks. What a fitting way to celebrate our nation’s independence. Loud…Bright…Brilliant!
But as we prepare to celebrate our nation’s independence, I find myself thinking about the quiet place inside us all that is our individual independence, our sense of self-referral, the place where we know, without question, who we are, what we deserve and what we are capable of achieving.
As Chief Executive Officer of YWCA Bergen County, my mission is eliminating racism and empowering women. These goals move me deeply and motivate me every day. It is truly a 24/7 passion.
So, today, in advance of this auspicious holiday for our nation, I send our community of women, men and families a wish for a joyous, safe Independence Day. And I also remind one and all to honor the independence, the value, the incandescent, irrepressible power inside of YOU.
