Throughout her legislative career, Senator Weinberg has been in the lead on every LGBTQ advancement in NJ, including marriage equality, transgender equality, and sweeping anti-discrimination and anti-hate crimes laws. She has also been instrumental in expanding awareness of aphasia.
Prior to the State Senate, Senator Weinberg served in the NJ General Assembly for 14 years. Some of her key legislation included lowering the legal alcohol level, prohibiting smoking in indoor spaces, overhauling jury selection, requiring insurance companies to pay for care for new mothers and babies, funding autism research from traffic violations, and creating the Governor’s Advisory Council on Adolescent Pregnancy.
Senator Weinberg has been recognized by the NJ Press Association for her tireless advocacy on behalf of transparency, by the ACLU for her leadership on civil rights issues, and by the National Newspaper Association for her support of the newspaper industry across NJ.
Senator Weinberg actively supports organizations that seek to improve lives such as Shelter Our Sisters (Founding Member), the Bergen Family Center, YWCA Bergen County, the National Council of Jewish Women, the NJ Network of Women Elected Officials, and the National Organization of Women Legislators.
